Summer at the Academy
Register Now!

We are excited to offer a variety of classes to help you enlighten, excite, and energize your summer. We’ve assembled a wide range of classes for all ages. Some courses are for credit, some for enrichment, and some just for fun. Fill your summer with reading, math, science, computers, art, and sports! You’ll find that there is something for everyone! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Steve Mercer at 972-931-8325, ext. 2008. Please return your completed registration forms to Pati Wallace at the reception desk in the Lower School lobby. Register early because classes will fill quickly. See you this summer!

Summer 2010 - Additional Courses
The following course has been added to the Summer at the Academy 2010:

 

Survivor!! from Wall Street to Main Street

  • Section 1: June 14-17, (M-TH), 3-5 p.m.
  • Section 2: June 21-24, (M-TH), 3-5 p.m.
Fee: $100

Are you ready for your $2,000,000 future? Yes, the average worker earns over $2,000,000 in his or her lifetime! Want to learn how to invest in the stock market, create a spending plan and prepare for the legal/contract world of college and work you are about to enter? Then join us to learn how to "survive" or better yet... avert life pitfalls and thrive. Win the stock contest, learn about the lure of debt, and avoid 911 calls to your parents! Students should be incoming sophomores, juniors, seniors or seniors who have just graduated. Enrollment is limited to 20 students per section. Basic instruction includes:

  • a working spending/living plan and the ability to continue it into college
  • life skills that will help prevent 911 calls from college due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time
  • savings wisdom to help prevent boomerang graduates from coming home to roost
  • learning to tell your money what to do instead of asking where it all went
  • learning of the dangers lurking with debt and credit
  • beginner wisdom on the stock market and how it all works, including a stock contest

Parents, each student receives a folder with knowledge they can refer to long after the class is over, and we send out parent e-mails with topics covered in class, dinner conversation suggestions, websites you can use as a resources and more. This course is priceless at any cost!
