MS Academic Resource Center

The mission of the Middle School Academic Resource Center is to provide support for students with learning differences and/or ADHD in order to maximize their potential for success within the TCA curriculum.

Accommodations

Standard

50% extended time on tests, quizzes, and timed essays
Preferential seating
Use of audiobooks for required readings and textbooks
Spelling corrections for restored credit on tests and quizzes as needed
Teacher-initiated check for understanding
Reframing directions and content delivery on assignments as needed
Provide students with training and mentoring in executive functioning skills
Repeat and clarify directions as needed
Oral reading of directions and test questions/answer choices as needed
Provide access to teacher notes as needed
Voice to text speech capabilities as needed

Grades 5/6: Single-tier Program

Grades 7/8: Two-tiered Program

Tier One:

Daily supervised PASTime period in the 7/8 ARC
ARC interfaces with teachers on behalf of students
ARC monitors grades and teaches Executive Functioning Skills
Students receive classroom accommodations
ARC offers 50% extended time on tests/quizzes and timed essays

Tier Two:

Students receive classroom accommodations
ARC offers 50% extended time on tests/quizzes and timed essays

ENROLLMENT QUALIFICATIONS

Enrollment in the Academic Resource Center is contingent upon completion of a full battery of psychoeducational testing, including IQ and achievement testing. A diagnosis of either a learning difference and/or ADHD must be shown. All accommodations provided must be supported from the data provided.
