Focusing on how elements struggle to dominate their environment, my body of work challenges how we see reality. Whether it is a mass of people overtaking a courtyard or icecaps spreading out in the water, the immersion is felt. The black and white tones explore how we try to simplify our perception of life and its struggles: right and wrong, light and dark, natural and unnatural. By comparison, you can see what is made up and fragmented often reflects our own mental state, as we make efforts to remove cognitive dissonance and piece our worldviews together. As seen in the monuments and shopping mall, we have the deep need to erect idols in our lives. These take form in material gain, people we admire or ourselves. The more we serve materialism the more our morality begins to center around our own needs, tearing away from natural values like love, humility and integrity.
