The Rise of Taylor Swift

Laura Bowling
Taylor Swift. Whether you love her or hate her, no one can deny the fact that she has been a defining factor for our generation. From her first self-titled album to 1989, Taylor Swift has taken the world by storm and does not seem like she is stopping anytime soon. She has sold out venues such the O2 Arena and MSG in under a minute, won every award and broken every record(basically). With each new album and world tour Taylor seems to continually surpass all expectations and shock the world into humbly admitting the Taylor Swift has and continues to change the world.

From her humble beginnings on a christmas tree farm in Pennsylvania to handd-delivering demos to record companies at age 11, Taylor has never lacked drive or ambition. She pushes herself to be better and influences those around to do the same.
Taylor released her first single, “Tim McGraw” in honor of her favorite country singer in 2006. She went on to release four more songs ,all of which we all know by heart: “Teardrops On My Guitar”, “Our Song”, “Picture to Burn” and “Should’ve Said No”.
After the raging success of the first album Taylor released her second, Fearless. This album brought us the anthem of tween and teen girls everywhere- “Love Story”. Proving that she had the talents and ambition to change the music world Taylor swiftly(haha) shattered records with some of the greatest songs ever sung such as “Fifteen”, “Fearless” and the song that we shall never forget “You Belong With Me”. And the best part about this album, it came with Taylor’s first world tour!(A truly magical experience). That same year a more well-known incident occurred. Kanye West interrupted one of her acceptance speeches, and Taylor handled it all with a grace and poise applauded by many.

Taylor’s success did not and has not stopped there. She went on to release Red, the first of her albums to stray from country music and then the ever-popular 1989, a true masterpiece.
At the young age of 26, Taylor has risen to immense success, winning a total of 235 awards and breaking numerous records. She has also gathered a huge fanbase, known as her “Swifties”.(A fiercely loyal and protective bunch) Aside from all of her success, she has positively impacted millions of lives, including mine. She has taught me and many others every day to embrace who we are and not to be so hard on ourselves. She continues to inspire millions of people worldwide through her music and character, and unite them through the power of her inspirational songs.

She is also an incredible role model for everyone, Swiftie or not. Her kindness, generosity, acceptance, classiness and strength are all Christ-like values. Unlike other popular musicians, she doesn't use shock tactics to make headlines. She proves that you don't need to be risqué to be successful. She is modest and doesn't drink or do drugs, because, as she says, "every singer out there with songs on the radio is raising the next generation - so make your words count". Also, she always supports her ever-growing "squad" of friends, some famous and some not. She sees her fans as friends as well, sending them gifts, following them on Tumblr, and leaving encouraging comments on their posts.

Taylor uses her status and influence to better the world, a trait not many celebrities seem to possess. Taylor is very charitable, always giving back. On multiple occasions, she has visited hospitals and donated large sums of money to different causes. In 2012, she wrote a song called "Ronan" about Ronan Thompson, a child who passed away from cancer, and donated all of the proceeds to cancer research. This is only one example of her charity; she has donated her time and money to numerous causes over the years. She doesn't do these things for attention, but out of the goodness of her heart. Taylor herself has said, "No matter what happens in life, be good to people. Being good to people is a wonderful legacy to leave behind". In just 10 years, Taylor has accomplished so much. I am so happy to say that I have been a swiftie through all of it. Many artists will come and go, but one thing’s for sure- Taylor Swift is here to stay.
